WBNS: Madison Health prepares for reopening following renovation project
January 10, 2019

Madison County’s only hospital is preparing to reopen following a nearly $25 million renovation project.

“Madison Health has been here since 1962 and this has been our largest expansion in that time frame,” said Dana Engle, CEO of Madison Health.

The project, which began in 2017, gives the hospital a cosmetic facelift while also expanding many of its crucial areas.

“We’ve experienced a lot of growth in the past several years,” Engle said. “This project allows us to have the capacity to grow into the future and also expand and meet the community’s needs.”

Some of the bigger projects at the hospital include a new and expanded emergency department. Curtains as room dividers are being replaced with glass doors to offer more privacy. The department is also adding 50 percent more beds.

A new birthing wing is also being added with room for seven new moms and nine babies.

“There’s a lot of natural light in the building and a lot of room, very spacious, and so it’ll be less congested, and we think it will be a lot better for the patients,” Engle said.

Hospital staff say the renovation is slated for a Jan. 21 completion date.

Madison Health is hosting an open house for community members to tour the new facility on Jan. 18.
